At 00:45 on Saturday 8 July 2006, Sura gave birth to the first of a litter of nine puppies. The litter consisted of four dogs and five bitches but unfortunately one of the bitches was stillborn. The puppies were examined by myself and other committee members and thankfully no sinuses were found in the pups which means that we have eight healthy and noisy puppies.
Sura has been a superb dam considering that this is her first litter. She has risen to the occassion although now that there are eight sets of teeth to cope with she prefers to observe her brood from the "more comfortable" bed beside the whelping box.

Dear Diary,
The puppies are now three and a half weeks old. Their eyes and ears are open, they are up on their legs and are playing with each other. Sura is quite content to lie in the whelping box with them even when they are not feeding. The litter is now so big that Daniel is busy turning the "whelping box" into a "puppy run" for them to explore.

Dear Diary,
Daniel completed the puppy run this morning and the puppies now have a lovely big space to play in. They still like to sleep in their box in a big heap but I know that they appreciate the extra space.

Dear Diary,
Due to all the building work currently being carried out on our house, I've been flat out trying to do fifteen jobs at once. First of all I must let you know that all the pups are fit and healthy. They have now got to the stage where they are wanting to explore the strange place outside the confines of their little home. As you can see in the photos below, they are able to stand at the entrance to the indoor run and a couple of them are even able to climb over the wall! We think that its time for them to move outside...

Dear Diary,
The patio has yet to be laid but the pups are coping very well with the foundations, although not ideal, it is very important that they have proper space to run around in. Kele is fascinated with the pups and often spends much of the day playing with them from the other side of the fence. Zena is trying her best to play surrogate mother and Sura is now happy to let her. Kip, like most fathers, leaves his parental duties to others! The pups are now consuming vast quantities of food, their favourites being raw Ox heart, raw chicken and tripe. They are six weeks old today and their individual personalities are now becoming apparent.

We took some video of the pups trying to negotiate the new "door" on the outside box: You may not see the video straight away because it needs to download from our server. It is best that you have a broadband connection otherwise it may take a long time before you are able to see the whole clip. The video clip is being broadcast using Quicktime which you may not have installed on your computer, if this is so, you can download the necessory software from apple's website for free:
